Torquay United’s play-off final ended in disappointment in Essex today, but this is not the end of our story.
It is the start of the next chapter.
There will be hurt tonight and for the next few days — among the players, staff, supporters and everyone who cares deeply about this football club. That is natural. When you travel in such numbers, believe so strongly and give so much, defeat in a game of this magnitude is painful.
But there is also something important to hold on to.
Since Jimmy Ball arrived at Plainmoor, there has been a renewed energy around the team. The football has been bold, exciting and full of promise. The players have shown courage, togetherness and a willingness to play in a way that supporters can believe in.
This season has reminded us what Torquay United can be. Big crowds, huge away followings, thousands together at Plainmoor for the Watch Party, and a fanbase that has once again shown why this club matters so much to Torbay and South Devon.
We did not get the ending we wanted today. But the direction is clear.
We go again — bigger, stronger and even more determined.
We also send a massive good luck to our Women’s team, who are away to Sherborne tomorrow — Sunday — with kick-off at 3pm. Supporters can listen live on TUFC Radio. Unless there is an unfeasible goal swing of around 30 goals, Torquay United Women will be crowned league champions, securing tier-four football next season and completing a remarkable Devon Premier Cup and league double.
Tomorrow, Plainmoor will stage an U15 Girls match, followed by an U13 Girls match, and that is an important reminder of what we are building. Torquay United is not just a first team. It is a football club for all — men, women, boys, girls, families, supporters and the whole community.
Tonight will hurt. But the journey with Jimmy is only just beginning.
We will come back stronger.
WE STICK TOGETHER – COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
