The future is bright – the future is yellow!
It’s been a busy time for all of our youth team age-groups over the past few weeks, with even the testing weather conditions unable to stop our Young Gulls from producing some encouraging performances at all levels.
An amazing tally of five wins and two draws from U8s through to U15s meant that Torquay United enjoyed a marvellous weekend – here we catch up with all the latest action.
Under 8s – Drew 6-6 v Juventus
James King | TUFC Under-8s Manager:
“What a match under the lights on Friday night, as the team played out a 6-6 thriller away against Juventus academy in a wet Ashburton.
“It was great work from the boys who were playing some nice football. It was a close one on the night, and a great match up, with Harrison standing out as our player of the match.”
Under 9s – Won 5-1 v Southgate
Mark Davenport | TUFC Under-9s Manager:
“The Under-9s won 5-1 against a technically very good Southgate team. Playing up the hill in the first half, they moved the ball well and worked hard to close down their numerous attacks.
“In the Second half, the boys really used the spaces that playing downhill created and fashioned a host of chances, before seeing the game out well. Josh scored three goals, with the other two coming from Ralph and Jude.
“There were a number of stand-out performances today, but the opposition gave it to our goalkeeper Riley for a couple of excellent saves and great distribution with his feet.”
Under 10s – Won 5-1 v Saltash United Titans
Lloyd Brown | TUFC Under-10s Assistant Manager:
“There was also a 5-1 win for the Under-10s against Saltash United Titans U10s. It was a fantastic performance from all the boys, with lots of pressing and moving the ball nice and quickly.
“The communication was brilliant too, and every boy has taken huge steps since the the beginning of this season. The are playing amazing football and becoming a great team.
“The goals came from George, Freddie, Duke D (2) and William, with Freddie Brown being picked by our opponents as our Man of the Match.”
Under 11s – Won 8-2 v Alphington
Mitchell Sims | TUFC Under-11s Manager:
“Our 8-2 win versus Alphington saw us play with four trialists, who all played a key part in the win.
“There was great play throughout, and some really nice possession football and combination play.
“Man of the Match went to George Hansford.”
Under 13s – Drew 2-2 v Saints South West Cornwall
Luke Poole | TUFC Under-13s Manager:
“After a run of some tough games, the lads were fantastic this morning and grinded out a well-earned draw against well-organised opposition.
“We could have even come away with all three points in the end, but it was much-improved compared to the previous games.”
Under 14s – Won 5-1 v North Somerset RTC
Matt Anthony | TUFC Under-14s Manager:
“This was a great display from the lads, particularly in the middle two quarters where they demonstrated ball retention and re-gaining possession superbly.
“Confidence and calmness on the ball was shown from all players as we dominated possession.
“A superb hat-rick from Oakley, a cool finish from Ronnie and a first-time screamer from Byron rounded off a brilliant performance.”
Under 15s – Won 3-2 v South Glucestershire
Paul Mills | TUFC Under-15s Manager:
“Our Under-15s put in a strong performance as a team.
“The Man of the Match performance came from Harrison for his constant work rate, and two well-taken goals against a very talented opposition.”
Well done, lads!
