All the Latest from Our Young Gulls
Although there was no action for our senior sides last weekend, there was plenty going on in our youth department, and here we take a look at how the next generation of United stars have been getting on.
Under 9s
Our U9 Blues put in a convincing performance against Saints Somerset.
There was some nice attacking football on display from the boys, who certainly took their chances in the first period. After a slightly scruffy second period, the Young Gulls got back into their groove in the final period to continue their impressive recent run.
Under 10s
There was a double-header for our U10s last weekend.
With squad rotation in place, a last non-competitive game provided an opportunity for some fringe players to impress against Juve – and the lads did themselves no harm at all.
Some good opportunities were created that weren’t quite converted, and although the ball was moved around quite well, a few misplaced passes caused some frustration. However, the pressure eventually told and although United’s keeper had to pull off a few decent saves, the lads soon took control once again. Some slack marking allowed Juve back into the game, but in the end, our Young Gulls proved just too strong, thanks to goals from Oh, Rio, and Harry.
In the other game, our U10s took on Saints U9s in tough conditions. Despite this making passing somewhat difficult, Torquay played really well and used their physical advantage to created some good opportunities.
Stanley helped himself to a hat-trick, whilst Jackson also got on the scoresheet against the Saints.
With some a few stand-out performances on show, there will be some difficult choices to be made going into the JPL competitive phase!
Under 13s
Bristol Inner City were the opponents for our U13s, and they put on a tremendous display!
The whole group battled together and supported each other throughout, against a very strong and powerful side that started on the front foot.
An early penalty save from Charlie Jennings gave the side belief, with the keeper going on to produce a fine performance between the sticks. Following a change of formation, the second half saw the yellows put in a really solid performance to continue the lads’ amazing start to the season!
Goalscorer Cole Barton received the Man of the Match plaudits on his debut, with fellow scorer Henry Cooper also having an impressive game.
Under 15s
Meanwhile, our U15s were on their travels last weekend, as they made the short trip to Somerset to take on Yeovil.
Sometimes you don’t get everything you deserve in football, and this was definitely one of those days!
A one-way second half saw United pin Yeovil back against their own goal for large periods, yet despite the hosts having their goalkeeper sent off in the later stages of the game, our Young Gulls just couldn’t quite make their domination count.
