National League South action gets back underway at Plainmoor on Saturday (09/08/25 3pm)
Having enjoyed a profitable pre-season campaign, it all begins again tomorrow for Paul Wotton’s men, as they look to go one step further than 2024/25, having gone so close to winning promotion back to the fifth tier last term.
Who’s The Boss?

Gavin enjoyed a remarkable first season at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, as his team secured promotion to National League South following a comprehensive Play-Off Final victory over Chatham Town (3–0).
Macpherson’s success at Town follows on from a lengthy spell at Metropolitan Police FC, a club where he spent 20 years as player, assistant and manager.
Having now established his current side in the sixth tier of English football in his second season at the helm, the Enfield boss will now be looking to build on that achievement in 2025/26.
Player to Watch

Tommy Wood arrived at Enfield earlier this summer, having turned out for NLS rivals Horchchurch last term.
The 29 year-old began his career with Burnley, before moving on to AFC Wimbledon in 2018. Numerous loan spells preceded a permanent switch to Tonbridge Angels, where 15 goals in 45 outings attracted the attention of Hampton & Richmond Borough.
A tall striker with a keen eye for goal, Wood will be looking to provide the goals to help the Towners scale new heights in 2025/26.
Played for Both

If one player in the Towners line-up knows Torquay United better than anyone else, it’s likely to be former Gulls youngster Mickey Parcell.
Having graduated through the youth ranks to turn professional at Plainmoor with Chris Hargreaves’ side in 2014/15, Right-back Mickey turned to his hometown club after finding his first-team route blocked.
A successful first spell at Enfield saw him welcomed back with open arms last summer, with his two spells at Town separated by a four-year stint at Hornchurch.
Previous Encounter

Tomorrow’s encounter is an exact repeat of last season’s opening day – and a similar result would certainly go down pretty well with the Yellow Army.
Last August, United’s new era under the Byrn Consortium kicked off with a 2-1 victory over Town.
After Enfield’s Lewis Taafe drew first blood for the visitors early on, United responded swiftly through Matt Carson, and things got even better before the break, with Brad Ash sending The Gulls into the break 2-1 up. Chances came and went in the second period, but with the Yellow Army backing them every step of the way, The Gulls saw the result through.
