United 0
AFC Totton 2
(Rendell 34′, Hallett 65′)
United bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup after a 2-0 defeat to AFC Totton at the Snows stadium. Goals from Scott Rendell and Luke Hallett means that it is The Stags that go through to the 1st round qualifying.
It was a tale of missed chances for United on the day. The match could have started in the perfect way possible had a chance for Jordan Young found the back of the net. He pounced on a loose ball to run on goal but was forced wide and his improvised finish went agonisingly wide of the far post.
Young then went close with a curling effort that went wide of the far post.
A near carbon copy chance of Young’s earlier effort fell for AFC Totton in the 13th minute, but Malachi Linton’s shot was blocked by Sam Dreyer who flung himself in the way to stop Totton taking the lead.
The Yellow Army was calling for a penalty in the 19th minute when a Totton defender touched the ball on the ground after pressure from Denzel Akyeampong.. The referee deciding that there wasn’t enough to award the penalty.
Totton took the lead in the 34th minute when the impressive Christos Batzelis crossed for former TUFC loanee Scott Rendell to nod home.
Ed Palmer advanced from the back to carve an opportunity for himself in the 38th minute. His left footed show went wide of the near post.
In the second half United started by applying more pressure to Totton’s box. Striker Cody Cooke laid the ball off for Denzel Akyeamopong to strike the ball over the bar in the 49th minute.
Jordan Young then had United’s second big opportunity in the 51st minute. Once again pressure took him wide of goal and his shot was wide of the far post. It would have been an ideally timed equaliser.
Manager Paul Wotton made two changes in the 54th minute. Anderson and Aykeampong made way for Hayfield and Thomas respectively.
Totton extended their lead in the 65th minute when Luke Hallett rose to head home from a corner.
Matt Carson and Jadyn Crosbie then entered the fray to replace Jay Foulston and Matt Jay. It was Carson that put an inviting ball into the box in the 72nd minute. First Jordan Young’s lunge just missed getting one back for United before Jordan Thomas put the ball over the bar.
United had spurned their best chances of getting back into the game and now look forward to the visit of Ebbsfleet United to Plainmoor in seven days time. We thank the Yellow Army for their fantastic support today.
