Following its launch last year, the Torquay United’s 1899 Club Lotto has proven to be a huge success for both supporters and the Club itself!

Starting with the first draw in May 2025, the 1899 Club has really got off to a great start. In only eight draws, the prizes given out were:

• A staggering £14,617 in cash
• 2 season tickets
• 1 half-season ticket
• 1 flexi ticket
• A £75 club shop voucher
• 8 separate £50 club shop vouchers sponsored by the Torquay United Supporters Trust
• 3 home shirts
• 3 away shirts
• 2 third shirts
• An 1899 commemorative shirt
• 2 separate prizes of four pre-match seats in The Cove
• A table for two at Newton Abbot Races
• And last, but not least, a coat, hat, and scarf set from the club shop

All of that cash and those individual prizes have gone to 46 lucky winners. Going into the new year, it could well be your turn to bag some serious cash or top prizes.

The reason we are able to provide those prizes is down to you getting involved, so we thank all of the 570 plus players with their approximate 650 entries for being part of a very exciting initiative that really does help the club, while also making the prize pot so attractive.

One of the most appealing aspects of the 1899 Club for the football club itself is that the money genuinely makes a difference. In 2025 alone, we’ve seen major improvements such as the floodlights being upgraded to a new LED system, the big screen being replaced after it had passed its best and stopped working altogether, and the immense amount of work carried out by our volunteers which requires significant materials and tools. We’re not saying that the extra money from the 1899 Club has paid for these things in full, but the rough £35k profit to the club has certainly made them much easier to achieve.

This brings us on to the plan for next year. The 1899 Club in 2026 will hopefully grow to a much bigger level. We’d love to reach 1,000 players a month from the Yellow Army so that we can offer even bigger prize pots, and maybe even some special additional prizes. We’d also like to encourage players from the local area who aren’t necessarily regular visitors to Plainmoor, but who still see the value in having a local football club that brings so much to the community. We’re also keen to encourage exiles to take part, which is one of the reasons we added extra cash prizes so that not all prizes are limited to those who attend matches at Plainmoor. You can even play from abroad, so wherever you are in the world, feel free to sign up.

One way we’d like to use the money in 2026, alongside other initiatives, would be to help fund youth football. The future of our football club – and most football clubs – lies in the hands of the next generation of fans and players. Giving them a helping hand isn’t just something we’d love to do; it’s the right thing to do.
