United Women Head To Gloucester

Torquay United’s promotion-chasing women are back on the road this weekend, as they head to the KMM Stadium to take on Gloucester City Women (22/02/26 2pm KO)

After their County Cup semi-final ended in progression – albeit in the anti-climax of a walkover – Ryan Perks’ side will be eager to press home their league advantage against Gloucester City this Sunday.

United, who are currently leading the way in the South West Regional Womens Football League, will know that there can be little margin for error in their final nine fixtures, with fellow promotion hopefuls Forest Green Rovers just three points behind having played a game fewer.

Perks, who may have explored the possibility of giving valuable game time to fringe players in last Sunday’s cancelled clash against Bradworthy, is unlikely to stray too far from the side that has served him so well in the first half of the season, with United currently on an eight-match winning streak – and scoring goals for fun.

The arrival of returning striker Connie Pengelly has provided Torquay with an added cutting edge in recent weeks, and has allowed other members of the team to exploit space and take opportunities, with impressive results.

Their last league outing – a 4-0 Coach Road success over Poole – was closely-fought in comparison to the 10-1 home mauling of Saltash that preceded it, however, no-one will eb taking anything for granted against a City side who have also hit the goal trail in recent weeks.

Having ran out 5-1 winners at home to basement side Bishops Lydeard last month, Gloucester followed that up by hitting Frampton for ten without reply in the back-to-back matches that followed, with a 7-0 away day triumph particularly catching the eye.

As always, any members of the Yellow Army able to make the trip to Gloucester will be most welcome and appreciated, however, anyone unable to make the game in person can instead listen to live and exclusive commentary via TUFC Radio HERE.
