Tomorrow’s Opponents

Buckland have earned a reputation as one of the most hospitable clubs in the Jewson Western League, however, Bucks fans will be hoping their generosity doesn’t extended to the football pitch in 2026/27, as they look to finally realise their ambitions of promotion to the Southern League after numerous near-misses.

Last season’s 7th-placed finish saw Athletic miss out on the replicating the previous campaign’s play-off participation, however, with manager Matt Cusack now having had a whole season to assess and reshape his squad, Buckland will surely be amongst the favourites to succeed next term.

Coby White, who recently progressed through to United’s Elite Under-19 pathway, enjoyed valuable game time at Homers Heath last term, and is set to do so again once the new season commences. He’s not the only Bucks player with Plainmoor connections though, although former Torquay centre-forward Jared Lewington missed the whole of 2025/26 through injury.

With the hosts having shown up well against The Gulls many times in the past, Saturday’s encounter is sure to be another competitive, but enjoyable, one!
