United Women Sign Sarah Stacey

Torquay United’s women have bolstered their strike force ahead of their return to the FA Women’s National League with the signing of former Exeter City striker Sarah Stacey.

Stacey arrives at Plainmoor having earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and prolific strikers in the National League, and having departed The Grecians at the end of last season following five hugely successful campaigns that saw her clock up 118 goals in 137 appearances, Sarah is now looking forward to a new challenge on the English Riviera for 2026/27.

Having begun her career at Plymouth Argyle before going on to represent the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Buckland Athletic, the addition of such an experienced and proven goal threat at this level is a huge boost to Ryan Perks’ side ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“I thought that Torquay would be a good move for me,” said Stacey after arriving at Plainmoor.

“Mollie [Taylor] is one of the players I already know here, and she is one of my closest friends in football, I also know Beth Everson and Connie Pengelly well, but I’m looking to get to know all of the girls and build good relationships with them off the pitch, as that will help on the pitch too.

“Having spoken to Ryan, we have a good idea of what we’d like to achieve this season, we’d love to push for promotion and compete against the sides that are already established in this league.”

Having already achieved so much within the game – including receiving international recognition with England Colleges – Sarah is keen to stress she’s raring to go with her new side.

“After leaving Exeter at the end of last season, I wasn’t ready to give up football. I want to get game time, and as a striker, I want to score goals. ” said the 31 year-old.

“If we train hard and work hard throughout pre-season, and maintain a good physical presence for our first game of the season, we’ve got nothing to lose. We need to show why we’ve been promoted.

“Playing the games at Plainmoor is important. Having a good fanbase behind you, and a good following really helps. When you score a goal, make a tackle, or a save, and your hear the crowd cheering, that will help you get through to that 90-minute mark.

Having already won the Golden Boot at Tier 4, few would bet against Stacey repeating the feat – this time in the yellow and blue of TUFC.

“I reckon I could give it a good shot!”

Welcome to Plainmoor, Sarah!
