Torquay United’s women were in ruthless mood on Sunday afternoon, as they thumped hosts Ottery St Mary 19-0.
Although United’s lethal finishing proved far too much for the home side, Ottery – who answered an SOS from Torquay after their original pre-season opponents pulled out – deserve credit for a reasonably competitive first 45 minutes.
Goals from Katelyn Bell, Ella Pawley, Trialist C and Matilda Franchi saw The Gulls 4-0 up at the halfway point, and although that was a healthy lead in itself, there was little at that stage to suggest an avalanche of 15 further goals would follow after the interval.
The second half saw Bell, Trialist C and Franchi all double their tallies, with the other goals coming from Mollie Taylor (3), Beth Everson (4) and Sarah Stacey (5).
The next test for Ryan Perks’ FA Women’s National League side will be a trip to Swansea City next Sunday.
