Youth Round-Up

All the Latest from Our Young Gulls

It’s been another productive weekend in Torquay United’s Youth Department, and here we take a look back at a busy weekend for our Young Gulls.

Under 8s

Our U8s put in a fantastic team performance in their win against Juventus.

In what was a tough, physical game, the simple two-touch football the lads have been working on in training really paid off.

The desire to win every ball back was impressive, and their commitment to being the first man on the ball is clearly working. Everything the lads have been working on regarding work rate and fast movement is now showing on the pitch!

A big well done to the young referee who handled every decision correctly and fairly.

Under 10s

  • Yellows

This group have had some tough weeks after coming back after the summer break, but some serious effort in training has produced some good end product, with the Yellows securing a morale-boosting win over Saints Somerset.

The boys went out with a game plan and they executed it perfectly, as the opposition tried to drag them into a dogfight with some strong challenges. Our Young Gulls stuck by their instructions though, and in the end earned a comfortable victory.

There’s more work to do, but the lads are improving week in, week out!

  • Blues

Meanwhile, the Blues produced a superb attacking performance, as they ran out winners over Ferdinand.

This was a slightly different challenge to recent weeks, with a team that really got after the team and wanted to stop them playing.

Although the ball retention wasn’t up to their usual high standards, some great turnover counters are proving a real weapon for the team this season, and it did so again this week.

That’s now four wins from four, and plenty of goals too!

Under 11s

In an-house match between United’s U11 Yellows and Blues took the form of a training game to help explain things to both teams when things needed addressing, which proved to be beneficial for both sides.

One notable positive was that Yellows were able to name a full squad after a testing few weeks, but what was even more pleasing was to see the boys embracing their review objectives.

Juventus 3–6 TUFC U14s

The final round of our group Cup fixtures saw the boys finish with a fine victory to make it eight matches unbeaten.

Whilst it certainly wasn’t their prettiest performance, the most important thing is that the lads got the job done, secured the win and continued their unbeaten start to the season.

One of the biggest positives was seeing several different players get themselves on the scoresheet, as Teddy Shobbrook (2), Freddy Bonner, Freddie Bradford, Lukas P and Luke Drew all got in on the act!

The Man of the Match award went to Cole Barton, who once again showed his quality, work rate and commitment to the team.

The team now head into next weekend’s fixture against South Gloucester full of confidence, but equally aware that there is always more to improve on.

Somerset 1 – 5 TUFC U16s

After a concerning start to the season, our Under-16s made it back-to-back wins in Somerset, as our Young Gulls executed their game plans impressively from start to finish.

Working on a 5-4-1 formation when out of possession and a 4-3-3 formation when in possession, this has been adopted well by the lads who are now making it their own!

Add in a disciplined approach, and our Young Gulls produced a top-notch, quality performance!

Well done, all!
