Jordan Dyer is facing a long spell on the sidelines after United manager Jimmy Ball confirmed the defender had ruptured his ACL in training.
Dyer, who signed a new contract with the Gulls at the end of last season, received the news after a scan on his knee revealed the extent of the injury.
“Unfortunately, Jordan Dyer has suffered a rupture to his ACL,” said Ball after Tuesday night’s match against Weston-super-Mare. “He’s seeing a surgeon tomorrow and the club will look after him and take care of him, like with all of our players.
“We’ll be with him all the way with his recovery. He’s strong, a mentally strong human being. Tough times don’t last; tough people do. Jordan will come back stronger for this, and we will all support him in that process.”
United have Sam Dreyer and Jake Wannell as natural centre-backs in the squad, and Dan Hayfield has covered that position in the past, but Ball confirmed he might need to consider bringing in reinforcements.
Right now, however, everyone at Plainmoor is focused on supporting Dyer throughout the long road to recovery.
“I doubt I’ll be able to bring anyone in for Saturday [at Dagenham], but we’ve got a strong squad. We’ve got enough bodies to take the strain.
“Our thoughts are with Jordan at the moment, and we’ll support him. He’ll bounce back from this.”
