Perks Looks Ahead To Wycombe Opener

FA Women’s National League opener sees The Gull head to Buckinghamshire (16/08/26 2pm KO)

After a number of challenging games and hard, gruelling training sessions during pre-season, the time for competitive football returns this Sunday with the long trip to face fellow newly promoted side Wycombe Wanderers.

United will come into the game following a thrilling 3–3 draw in Cardiff, a game in which United had to come from behind more than once and dig deep defensively.

United will also be boosted by the signings of Brooke Ellis and Dani Tyson. Both players impressed during pre-season and have been offered places in the United squad as they make the step up to the Women’s National League.

However, one face who won’t be taking on the new challenge this season will bring, will be last season’s treble-winning captain Lucy Palmer, with the defender seeking pastures new during the close-season.

Everyone at Torquay United wishes Lucy all the best for the future, and thank her for all her efforts in a yellow shirt.

Sunday will be the longest away trip of the season, with United making the journey to the 1878 Stadium, home of Wycombe Wanderers Women.

The “Chairgirls”, who, like United, won their division and secured promotion last season, will come into the game having rounded off their pre-season with a win over Farnham.

Ryan Perks will be looking to kick the season off in positive fashion, with the United Women’s manager targeting a mid-table finish for the Gulls in their first season back at this level.

Ahead of his side’s opening fixture, Perks spoke to Official TUFC TV about the challenge ahead.

Supporters unable to make the trip to Wycombe will, as always, be able to listen to live and exclusive commentary via TUFC Radio from 1.45pm HERE
