Farnham Town 2
(Clifford 60′, Bingham 79′)
United 0
United suffered their second defeat of the season on Bank Holiday Monday, as two second half goals clinched victory for Farnham.
After a goalless first half, Billy Clifford was gifted a goal for the hosts, before Rakish Bingham’s second sealed a disappointing afternoon in Surrey for The Gulls.
Follow Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Hampton & Richmond, manager Jimmy Ball made three amendments to his starting line-up, with Tyler Hill, Jordan Young and Jacob Beaumont-Clark replacing Sam Dreyer, Cody Cooke and Callum Morton.
The less said about the first 45 minutes the better.
With both sides appearing to adopt a safety-first attitude, it was Ball’s side that took charge in the possession and territory stakes, all it wasn’t until the final minute of the half that Farnham goalkeeper Mike Eacott was called into action, as Deon Moore’s fierce volley from a tight angle forced the home stopper to tip the rising effort over the crossbar.

Following the change of ends, Farnham showed a little but more ambition.
However, when they took the lead on the hour mark, it was largely through a calamitous mix-up in the Gulls’ backline.
When Clifford cut inside from the left and sent a right-footed ball into the United penalty are, it looked like it would be a routine delivery to deal with, but with Hill ducking for his keeper to gather and Savin leaving the ball for his defender to clear, the indecision cost Torquay, as the ball curled into the far corner of the net.
That goal did spark some added urgency from Torquay, although another Moore effort – which this time cleared the crossbar – was the only time Ball’s men really threatened.
The result was then put beyond doubt when Town grabbed their second with eleven minutes remaining.
Clifford turned the provider on this occasion, with his close-range pass to Bingham allowed the Farnham attacker to venture forward and side-foot the ball out of Savin’s grasp.
Ball’s side kept plugging away, but the final whistle confirmed this was to be a bad day at the office.
