United’s impressive start to the season continued on Sunday afternoon, as a 1-1 draw strengthened their FA WNL League Cup chances.
A drab first 45 minutes saw both sides head to the tunnel without a breakthrough, although Ryan Perks’ side went close on a couple of occasions.
That pattern continued following the restart, and therefore it was disappointing when Marine Academy took the lead via the penalty spot on the hour mark.
A couple of changes to personnel prompted an improved showing thereafter, and one of those, Matilda Franchi was instrumental in United’s equaliser, as it was her cross that was misjudged by MAP keeper Nicholson, leaving Sarah Stacey to bundle the ball home form point-blank range in the 71st minute.

Chances came and went at both ends in the latter stages as the two sides battled it out for a winner, but in the end, the Devon rivals could no be separated.
The attention for Perks’ side can now switch back to league matters, with a trip to Keynsham Town next on the agenda (13/09/26 2pm KO).
