United Sign Exciting Belize International Angelo Cappello

Torquay United is delighted to announce the signing of exciting Belize international Angelo Cappello following his departure from FC Halifax Town.

Still only 24, the quick and skilful winger arrives at Plainmoor with considerable experience already behind him, having made nearly 150 appearances during four seasons with the National League club.

A direct, left-footed attacker capable of operating on either flank or at wing-back, Cappello is known for his pace, willingness to run at defenders and ability to create opportunities for teammates, adding energy and a different attacking dimension to Jimmy Ball’s squad.

Born in Belize, Angelo moved to England with his family at the age of 11 and progressed through the highly regarded Sheffield United academy, earning his first professional contract with the Blades at just 18.

After gaining senior experience during a loan spell with National League North side Blyth Spartans, Cappello joined Halifax in the summer of 2022 and quickly established himself as a regular at The Shay.

His first season in West Yorkshire ended with a memorable appearance at Wembley, as Halifax defeated Gateshead 1-0 to lift the 2023 FA Trophy. Cappello went on to become an important and versatile member of the Shaymen’s squad, also helping the club secure a place in the National League play-offs during the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite his age, Angelo therefore arrives with extensive experience at the level above, as well as the winning pedigree of lifting silverware at Wembley.

Cappello has also represented Belize at youth and senior level, winning nine full international caps and scoring his first goal for his country in a CONCACAF Nations League victory over French Guiana in September 2023.

His arrival provides another exciting boost to United’s wide attacking options ahead of Saturday’s National League South encounter with Folkestone Invicta at Plainmoor (3pm KO).
