Having just been named in the latest NLS Team of the Week, Jordan Thomas is continuing to earn rave reviews at Plainmoor.
After spending time on loan with Salisbury immediately prior to his arrival at Torquay, the on-loan right-back is now firmly established as a fan favourite with the Yellow Army, ahead of the two sides going head-to head under the lights tomorrow (11/03/25 7.45pm KO).
“It has been a pleasure to play in front of the fans home and away,” said Jordan, who also spoke of the impact Gulls manager Paul Wotton has had on his game since his switch from Yeovil Town.
“I’m really enjoying my time here. The boys have been fantastic, and the manager has been excellent with me.
“I think for the team, it does come from the manager and what he wants. What he demands from us in training is something I haven’t seen before. It’s really impressive. The manager is big on keeping high standards in all departments.
“I think the players have bought into what he and his staff want. He knows the level we’re at, so it would be dumb not to listen and buy into what he wants us to do.”
After making his senior bow in the rarefied heights of the Premier League as a late substitute for Norwich against Manchester City in the final match of the Covid-ravaged 2019/20 campaign, it’s perhaps unsurprising that Thomas has looked so comfortable in both full-back and wing-back roles this season.
“I think I’ve suited what the manager’s requirements are for a full-back or wing-back – energy, fitness levels, being able to get up and down the pitch, and to be solid defensively. Those were all qualities I wanted to bring to the team coming into the club.
“I wanted to make sure that I can add to the back four, or back five, solid defensive work. I think me and the other boys haven been doing that, from front to back.
“It hasn’t just been the defensive boys doing that work – I think it has been a collective effort.”
