United Stars impressing out on loan
With a number of United’s senior professionals and young guns currently out on loan, the past few weeks have seen many of them gaining valuable game time.
Here, we check in to see how Torquay’s ‘Loan Rangers’ have been getting on…
- Sonny Fish – Folkestone Invicta
With Folkestone currently leading the way in the Isthmian League Premier Division, there’s plenty of competition for places in the Kent-based side’s line-up.
Sonny has figured in all three of Invicta’s matches so far though, and after starting the 1-1 draw with Burgess Hill Town, his impact off the bench in the victories over Wingate & Finchley (4-0) and former club Welling (2-0) has helped Jay Saunders’ men strengthen their place at the top of the table.

- Jadyn Crosbie – Dorchester Town
Young striker Crosbie may have seen his pathway to United’s attack blocked by the prolific form of Young, Dennis & Co, but he’s currently a key component in Dorchester’s battle for Southern League Premier survival.
Town have struggled to match last season’s superb Play-Off campaign, with The Magpies current just one place off the foot of the table. Crosbie has enjoyed a profitable spell in Dorset though, with his opener in the recent 4-3 success over Havant & Waterlooville being his fourth goal of the season.
- Matt Carson – Taunton Town
Northern Ireland U21 international Carson has been left frustrated in recent weeks, with a number of weather-enforced postponements putting The Peacocks’ battle for Southern League safety on hold.
Prior to that enforced break in action, Matt had been a regular name on the Taunton teamsheet, and with former Torquay boss Gary Johnson joining ex-Gulls Ben Seymour, Kalvin Kalala, Niall Thompson and Jamie Richards at Wordsworth Drive, there’s now a strong United presence in Somerset.
- Aidan Edwards & Fin Herbert – Brixham AFC
Dropping down a division but remaining in Torbay, Under-18 starlets Edwards and Herbert recently swapped time with The Gulls for a temporary spell with The Fishermen.
Having both been involved in Paul Wotton’s pre-season preparations, Edwards went on to make a number of National League appearances from the bench, whilst Herbert enjoyed at AFC’s divisional rivals Willand. The duo will now be setting their initial sights on helping Brixham climb away from the Southern League South relegation zone.

- Toby Hard – Buckland Athletic
Another promising United youngster, Toby has been continuing his footballing development at Torquay’s partner club, Buckland.
Athletic are currently in the thick of the Western League Play-Off race, with The Bucks currently residing in 5th position. Hard has seen plenty of action during the first part of the 2025/26 campaign, figuring in 19 matches, scoring 2 goals.
- Jonah Shaw – Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police
Jonah’s recent arrival at Broadley Lane has boosted The Bees’ title challenge, with his two appearances for South West Peninsula Premier Division East side seeing them take maximum points in the home games against Okehampton Argyle and Ilfracombe Town.
After making his debut in the 1-0 win over Argyle, Shaw opened his scoring account in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Town, with Stoke Gabriel now trailing leaders Bovey Tracey by eight points.
