Torquay United’s women take on Gloucester City at Plainmoor on Sunday, knowing that another three points could potentially see Ryan Perks’ side clinch the league title, and with it, promotion.
Victory for The Gulls against City (26/04/26 2pm KO), coupled with Forest Green Rovers simultaneously dropping points in their home game with Pucklechurch, would be enough to mathematically seal United’s place in the FA Women’s National League for 2026/27.
Even if Rovers do win this weekend, another Plainmoor success for Torquay would leave them within one result of celebrations, and therefore the Sunday stakes really couldn’t be any higher.
However, if the past two encounters with Gloucester are anything to go by though, United will need to be at their very best to come out on top.
A 3-2 league win at the TigerTurf Stadium back in February was hard-fought in itself, but that result appeared a mere formality in the face of a bizarre 6-5 League Cup win just four weeks later.
United’s not-so-secret weapon in recent weeks has been the outstanding form of strikers Beth Everson (12 goals in 13 appearances) and Connie Pengelly (19 goals in 10 appearances), with the pair helping themselves to 11 of the team’s last 18 goals.
Sunday’s encounter will be the first time the deadly duo will have been paired together at Plainmoor this term though, giving the Yellow Army the chance to witness them in action against one of the best sides in the division.
Prior to the main event kicking of at 2pm, the stadium will be playing host to TUFC’s inaugural Women’s Football Festival, with the fun beginning from 9am. To find out more about the Festival, click HERE
