The Cup Games Keep Coming for United Women

The cup games keep coming for United Women. After last Sunday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park in the final group game of the FA Women’s National League Cup, attention now turns to this season’s Women’s FA Cup.

United will once again be on the road as they head to face Keynsham Town in the third qualifying round on Sunday, 4th October (1.30pm KO).

The two sides have already met this season, with United travelling to the AJN Stadium just a few weeks ago and cruising to a 3-1 victory in the league. Two goals from Sarah Stacey, alongside a goal from Brooke Ellis, sealed all three points for United in a game they dominated for large parts.

Keynsham’s two games since then have seen them pick up their first league win of the season, before playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Exeter City in their final group game of the League Cup.

United will head into Sunday’s game looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. Despite the result, United were largely in the game and, on another day, could have walked away with something to show for their performance.

The match also helped raise much-needed funds for Roxy Thomas, with Argyle confirming earlier this week that £3,000 was raised through the gate receipts from the game.

United will therefore travel to Keynsham knowing that another strong performance could be enough to secure their place in the next round.

There will be no second chances on Sunday, with the Women’s FA Cup played to a conclusion on the day and no replays. Should the scores be level after 90 minutes, the tie will be decided by a penalty shootout.

United will be hoping it doesn’t come to that, though, with plenty of firepower at the top end of the pitch. Sarah Stacey has found her form in front of goal, while Brooke Ellis and Ella-Mea Miller have also found the net this season. September’s Player of the Month, Beth Everson, adds another attacking threat, while United’s stubborn defence will be looking to keep Keynsham at bay.

With a place in the next round at stake, United will be hoping to produce another strong performance on the road and give the Yellow Army something to look forward to when the draw for the next round is made.

As ever, Gulls fans unable to make the trip will be able to listen to live and exclusive commentary of the full game in Sunday via TUFC Radio, with coverage beginning from 1.15pm
