Summary

Truro City 1
Lewington (7’)

Torquay United 3
Reid (22’ & 77’), Kalala (86’)

Two goals from Jamie Reid and one from Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala helped United clinch a 3-1 victory over Truro City at Plainmoor.

United made one change from the side that beat Gloucester City 2-1 at Plainmoor on Saturday, with Connor Lemonheigh-Evans replacing Jean-Yves Koue Niate.

It was advantage to the home side Truro in the 7th minute when a Niall Thompson cross from the right found striker Jared Lewington in the box who was able to head home to make it 1-0. United almost replied immediately in the 9th minute when Kalala found Janneh but his shot was dragged just wide.

United almost made it all-square in the 11th minute when a cross from Asa Hall found Kyle Cameron whose header was saved by Truro keeper Harvey Rivers. He was very unlucky not to score.
United got that all-important equaliser in the 22nd minute via a tremendous strike from Jamie Reid. He found space in midfield and his low driven effort was enough to beat Rivers in the Truro net to make it 1-1.

United could have made it 2-1 in the 34th minute when Jake Andrews, Jamie Reid and Saikou Janneh combined to allow Andrews to shoot on goal. Unfortunately, Andrews’ curling shot just went past the post.

Truro nearly scored a second on the brink of half time. Tyler Harvey’s 20-yard volley called MacDonald into action. Soon after, Lewington also had a chance to make it 2-1 after United defender Ben Wynter was unable to deal with a ball over the top. Lewington was able to get behind United’s defence but his curling effort went just wide of the post. The two sides went into half time all-square with everything to play for in the second half.

The Yellow Army willed United on to find a winner in the second half and it took a little time, but Jamie Reid was the man to break the deadlock. Saikou Janneh laid the ball off to him inside the penalty box and his spectacular curling effort from outside of the area was enough to beat Rivers.

Truro had Niall Thompson sent off after he received a second yellow card. It was all the impetus United needed to score a third.

United could have made it three in the 85th minute after substitute Ruari Keating hit the bar with a half volley. United did make it 3-1 in the 86th minute when Kalala darted into the box, beating two Truro defenders and then finding the far corner.
