Jean-Yves Koue Niate has become the latest member of Gary Johnson’s squad to sign a new deal with Torquay United.

Having joined the club last summer following a spell with Guiseley, the French defender has become a firm favourite with the Plainmoor faithful having contributed 23 appearances and 3 goals. Koue Niate’s imposing presence in defence has proved a real asset in United’s quest for promotion, and the Paris-born centre back has also notched some vital goals too.

Both manager and player spoke of their delight in finalising the deal.

“It’s great news that Jean has committed himself to us,” said TUFC manager, Gary Johnson. “I feel Jean has improved tremendously over the season and there’s still more improvement to come. However, he’s a very strong, quick, athletic centre-back and he’ll be a great asset in our quest for promotion.”

“I’m really happy to sign a new deal and I just wanted get this done so that I can focus on the pitch,” said Jean. “The day I first signed for this club, I wanted to achieve the objective of gaining promotion. I really enjoy being here.”

With Niate putting pen to paper, it looks likely to bring to an end the recent run of players that have signed new deals.

“That’s a full house now! A full house of boys that have committed themselves to the Club,” added Johnson. “That is a very powerful thing when all of your contracted players are desperate for themselves and for each other to get to the next level.”
