United kick off the new campaign at Plainmoor!

The Vanarama National League fixtures for the 2020/21 season have been released, with Gary Johnson’s side beginning the campaign at home to Stockport County on October 3rd.

Other fixtures of particular interest to Gulls fans include a repeat of last season’s Westcountry derby double-header, although this time United will face Yeovil Town at Plainmoor on December 26th, before travelling to Huish Park for the first match of 2021 on January 2nd.

In between those encounters, Torquay will make their way to Dorset to take on National League new boys Weymouth on December 28th, with The Terras heading to the English Riviera on Saturday, April 10th.

The season is rounded off with an away trip to another new addition to the 2020/21 line-up, in Altrincham.

“The first thing, is that I’m pleased there are some fixtures. That is the first plus,” began United boss Johnson in his assessment of the list.

“Stockport at home is a great, tough early game, but a good game to have – I like those ones. The reason why it is tough is because Stockport have been made one of the favourites. It now gives us our focus on what we have to do early on.

“It’s good to be at home, but then when you are at home, you have two away games, so you have to be ready and hit the ground running if you can.

“Who knows who the better teams are going to be – we don’t know that yet. Who would have thought that Fylde would have been relegated out of this league, after being in the play-offs? I’m sure when the players get to hear about it, and see that there is a big light at the end of what was a very long tunnel, they will be buzzing.

“All we need now is a crowd!”
