Fresh from Saturday’s win over Wrexham, manager Gary Johnson is looking for his side to produce more of the same against Maidenhead United tomorrow at Plainmoor.
“I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Plainmoor against Wrexham on Saturday, and appreciate the support as ever,” said Johnson.
“Hopefully we can give our supporters another entertaining game. I was very pleased with the result, very pleased with the performance, but it’s still very early. We have to keep it going, starting against a decent Maidenhead side who have done very well to get into the top six of the table, and are definitely a team to be wary of.”
Whilst United were beating their Welsh opponents 3-1, Maidenhead were busy securing an impressive result of their own, with a 1-0 away win at Eastleigh – the only side to down Torquay’s colours so far this campaign. That result moved the The Magpies up to 4th position in the early standings.
On-loan Cheltenham winger Alex Addai scored the goal of the game last Saturday, and is a player The Gulls’ boss knows well, having plucked the pacy youngster from non-league Merstham during his time in charge at Whaddon Road.
“I’ve worked with a couple of their players that will be in their team or squad – Alex Addai and Rohan Ince – and both have qualities that have to be watched, along with a strong group that are playing with confidence.”
One man who won’t be in attendance tomorrow will be Maidenhead manager Alan Devonshire, who is recovering from hip surgery. Although his side have clearly been doing remarkably well in his absence, Johnson is keen for him to return to the fold as soon as possible.
“I wish Alan Devonshire, their manager, who won’t be at the game, well, and hope he gets back to football very soon.”
Supporters are reminded that tickets must be purchased in advance for tomorrow night’s encounter, with NO tickets available for purchase or collection at the match.
Those unable to attend need not miss out though, with live streaming available here, whilst coverage will also be provided via TUFC Radio here.
