Ahead of International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8th March, TUAFC’s mens and women’s teams will be dedicating this weekend’s fixtures to Her Game Too.

Here at Torquay United we have already seen the power of women uniting at Plainmoor after the Club launched its partnership with Her Game Too by offering 1000 free tickets to female supporters when Gary Johnson’s side hosted FC Halifax Town in November. The Club became the first to devote a whole stand to female supporters, with the initiative seeing United earn the ‘Her Game Too Hero’ award for November.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women marked annually on 8th March. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality. IWD is one of the most important days of the year to celebrate women’s achievements, and with 60% of the Club’s non-playing staff being female, Torquay United is proud to pay homage to this day, as well as continuing a partnership with Her Game Too.

Her Game Too aims to combat sexism in football and was founded by 12 passionate female football fans. The non-profit organisation aims to create an ethos in football which sees women being welcomed and respected equally and has a wide range of aims, with the focus of building a more welcoming environment for young girls and women, as well as continuing their campaign against sexism in football and online abuse.

The Club will be producing content to celebrate International Women’s Day over the coming days and on Saturday Gary Johnson’s side host fellow play-off chasers Bromley at Plainmoor, the Club will show its support to IWD and Her Game Too by including a feature in our 1899 magazine about celebrating IWD at Plainmoor, and distributing Her Game Too flyers around the ground.

Meanwhile on Sunday Grant Fisher’s TUWFC side travel to Sherborne Town LFC where they hope to extend their winning streak and lead at the top – the girls team will warm up in branded warm-up T-shirts provided by Her Game Too.
