Torquay United is delighted to welcome goalkeeper Rhys Lovett to Plainmoor.
The 25 year-old stopper is certainly no stranger to United boss Gary Johnson, having been given his senior debut by the Gaffer during Rhys’ stay at Cheltenham Town.
After moving on to Gloucester City following his departure from The Robins, Lovett’s stint at Maidenhead saw the ‘keeper make a number of impressive displays between the sticks for the National League outfit, before making global headlines after rising off the bench for an appearance as an emergency outfield player on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign, and promptly getting himself on the scoresheet!
Johnson is pleased to have Rhys’ goalkeeping prowess on board once again, whilst also noting his skills in front of goal too:
“We welcome Rhys to our Football Club,” said the Gaffer.
“I know him well. Rhys has been gaining lots of experience over the last few years, he’s a great trainer, and he will be looking forward to pushing for a first-team place in due course… and we ever need a late goal, then Rhys is perfect for Gary Time!”
For the player himself, Lovett obviously can’t wait to be working with his former boss once more.
“I’m happy to be signing. I played for the Gaffer at Cheltenham for three years, he was the one that gave me my league debut, so to come here was a no-brainer.
“I’m looking forward to getting my head down, working hard and I hopefully have a good season.”
