There was a good turn out at Retro Gulls last Friday, in our latest event aimed at the over 50’s.
The event was hosted by Media Assistant Ian Brown, with Torquay United Women’s manager Steve Elswood and two members of the Community Walking Football team joining the proceedings.
It was Angelo Montini & Hayden Jones from the Community Walking Football team stepping up first as they took to the floor to tell everybody about walking football and its importance, not only for fitness and enjoyment but also in the way it can get people out and about to help with mental wellbeing. They also answered questions from those present as well as telling all about theor two trophies that were won last season.
Next up was the 15 question quiz which had the turn out thinking hard about their answers and there were lots of correct ones given, which led to a close run contest, with the eventual winners scoring a creditable 7 points.
The event was rounded off when TUWFC manager Steve Elswood told everybody about last season’s Devon Cup win against local rivals Exeter City, as well as answering questions about the ladies game and its growth both before and since the Lionesses won the Euro 2022 title in the Summer.
TUAFC would like to thank our guests and supporters for turning up to the event and we invite our Retro Gulls to our last event of the season which will take place in Boots & Laces on Thursday 27th October from 2pm – 4pm. We look forward to seeing you all in attendance.
About Retro Gulls
With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.
The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.
The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!
