After returning to the side recently, Kieron Evans is looking forward to the clash with Oldham Athletic tomorrow, as United attempt to make it back-to-back wins on the road.

Having arrived on loan from Championship side Cardiff City over the summer, Kieron quickly established himself as a regular in Gary Johnson’s side, before the 20-year-old was sidelined by an injury sustained during United’s 3-2 defeat against Maidenhead at Plainmoor in October.

“It was frustrating, but everything happens for a reason really,” explained Evans.

“I feel like being back in the side now – I’ve played the last two or three games – I’m getting back to where I was. Obviously with the game on Sunday, I’m just looking forward to that now.”

While the Cardiff loanee is happy to be employed in a number of different roles across the midfield, his current role in the side is one that he is finding particularly productive.

“I spoke to the Gaffer before I came here and I said I can play in a few positions, and obviously I’ve played out wide a few games. Now he likes me in this number 10 role, and I think I’ve got his trust now. I do understand what he wants from me, that’s just starting to come out, and it’s only going to get better from there.”

With the midfielder being one of a number of a new recruits made during the summer, it has understandably taken some time for the side to settle, however having now developed a deeper understanding of their teammate’s games, Kieron feels the squad is now starting to gel.

“Even in training, we’re starting to understand each other’s games and that’s now starting to come out in games. We’ll all be reading the same thing, what’s going to go on, what’s going to happen next, and I do think we all understand each other now, and it’s about time it’s got there really.

“I think we were a bit unlucky in a few of the games at the start, and obviously you need a little bit of luck in games, which we didn’t really have. Now I think everything is starting to come together, we’re playing better, we’re better understanding what the Gaffer wants, and we’re starting to get that little bit of luck now as well.”

With the side looking to build on the four points gained picked up from their last two outings, the midfielder is now looking at getting on the scoresheet for the first time in a Gulls shirt, having gone agonisingly close by rattling the crossbar at Dagenham. With the BT Sport cameras in close attendance at Boundary Park, tomorrow afternoon would certainly be a nice way to break that duck, however Evans remains focused on the main task in hand.

“I feel like it’s going to come sooner rather than later if I’m honest. The first one is always the hardest to get out the way – I feel like as soon as that goes in, I think they’ll start coming more frequently.

“I think it’s going to be two teams raring to go, and it’ll be whoever is more up for it on the day really. We’re both fighting near the bottom at the minute, and both teams really, really, need these three points, so we’re going to give everything we can and hopefully take all three points.

“The Gaffer mentioned it the other day when we beat Dagenham, that that’s three points, and it would be really good to get six points in two games, so that’s what we’re all trying to get now.”
