United’s Young Gulls kept up their challenge for the league title, as they saw off Yeovil Town U-18s 4-0 on Saturday.
United put in an excellent performance on Saturday to see of their visitors from Somerset, though despite dominating the opening 20 minutes they had to be patient before gaining the lead. With a high energy performance in the midfield from Sam Bishop, the Yellows created numerous chances when getting into the final third of the pitch, only to be denied by the visitor’s keeper, and even had claims for a penalty when George Collins seemed to have been fouled, but the referee waved the claims away and the game continued to be goalless.
However on 35 minutes United finally took the lead and this time a penalty was given when Ben Aldous was fouled in the box, and Jayden Gilbert stepped up to calmly convert the spot kick into the bottom corner. Gilbert was to get another goal in the game and along with Aldous grabbing another two goals, the deadly duo are certainly enhancing their reputation in youth football, and played a vital part in helping to get the Young Gulls a 4-0 victory.
Manager Ryan Dickson summed up his thoughts on the game afterward commenting:
“I was really impressed with the competitive nature of the boys and the motivation they show to consistently perform levels above the opposition on the day. There were some real high quality moments within the game, and a clean sheet that was driven by the standards and mentality of Harvey Field.”
“They are a group that at this moment in time have the potential to have bright futures in the game, and it is now down to them to grow & keep pushing for a future in football.”
