The TUAFC Under 18s continued their quest for the league title with another convincing win & performance on Saturday, as the TUAFC Under 13s wrapped up the title in their league.
On a windy morning and in difficult conditions at South Devon College, TUAFC Under 18s took on BRS Coaching looking to go back to the top of the table with a win.
Ryan Dickson made wholesale changes to the team, resting most of the second year players and bringing in three players from the Under 16s team. The changes made had no effect on the team as they controlled the first half, and even in the windy conditions they found themselves heading in at the break 2-0 up and looking comfortable for that lead.
The second half began with a slightly tighter game and with no addition to the score which then led to changes at the midway point, with a strong bench of second years to choose from coming on and helping the Young Gulls grab another two goals to wrap up the game 4-0 and send the team back to the top of the table. Goal-scorers on the day were Jayden Gilbert (2), Kai Swann and Brandon Gilbert.
The Young Gulls are next in league action on Saturday 15th April, when they have a top of the table game at home to second placed Bridgewater United U18s. Looking ahead, United will be defending their Cup title when they face Mangotsfield United in the Final, which is to be played at Bridgewater United’s ground Fairfax Park on Saturday 13th May (10:30am KO).
TUAFC Under 13’s Clinch The Title!
Meanwhile the Torquay Utd Under 13’s travelled to Somerset on Saturday knowing a victory would secure the championship over SSW Devon.
The game started off with Torquay appearing to let the importance of the game effect their usual footballing standards, and were a goal down following a corner. With ten minutes to go before halftime, Ethan Lopeman chased a long ball and passed to Harrison Discombe, who slotted past the defender on the line, and the scores were level.
The second half was all Torquay, and on 50 minutes Mason Bryant was fouled in the box and Thomas Ross put away the penalty for a 2-1 lead. Will Glanfield finished off a good team goal involving four players, latching onto a Jamie Mitchell through ball to finish past the keeper, and United extended their lead.
Torquay’s fourth came after Bryant laid the ball back to Ben Jolly to drive his shot into the corner, and then with five minutes to go, Jolly broke through the SSW defence to round the keeper and finish, as United claimed the Championship with the game finishing SSW Somerset 1 Torquay United U13s 5.
Manager Paul Mills said “I am really proud of the team and they deserved to be league winners, only losing two games and drawing one all season.”
