In our first Retro Gulls event of 2023 last week, the group were treated to a surprise visit from United manager Gary Johnson & assistant Aaron Downes.
A busy Retro Gulls event was surprised and delighted to see the United manger Gary Johnson and assistant Aaron Downes in attendance for a funny and informative Q & A session, in which both spoke about their careers and the changes in the game of today compared to past years, as well as the team’s recent good form.
This was then followed by a visit from Paul Edmundson, and he gave a talk about his new community group called MMH Warriors, which aims to help men with mental health issues by holding weekly meetings in Paignton, and also soon to be at Boots & Laces on a Monday between 6pm and 7pm, details of which will follow in due course with a starting date.
Following that, our ever-popular general knowledge quiz took place, as our Retro Gulls were put through their proverbial paces, which lead to the team, Also Rans, claiming victory with 9 points out of 15.
Torquay United AFC would like to thank everyone that came to Retro Gulls first event of 2023, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Plainmoor for our next event in February!
About Retro Gulls
With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.
The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.
The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!
