Striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong added to Gulls squad ahead of Hereford Trophy test.
Torquay United have bolstered their attacking options ahead of this afternoon’s Isuzu FA Trophy 4th Round tie at Hereford FC, with Ofori-Acheampong sealing a return to the Club.
With leading scorers Aaron Jarvis and Brad Ash both continuing their respective recoveries from injury, and Fleetwood loanee Theo Williams recently returning to his parent club, the addition of 31 year-old centre-forward to the Torquay squad gives manager Gary Johnson another welcome option ahead of a hectic run of fixtures.
“The opportunity arose to sign Duane on a short-term deal,” said Johnson.
“It’s another different golf club in our bag, so we decided to bring him in.”
Having netted 6 goals in 18 starts during his first stint at Plainmoor in 2014/15 – his first in professional football – Duane has since gone on to represent the likes of Dover, Woking, Dartford and Braintree amongst others, before his recent departure from Concord Rangers paved the way for the imposing frontman’s return to the English Riviera.
The player himself reflected on going back to where it all began for his professional career.
“It was definitely an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Ofori-Acheampong.
“Coming here and seeing the stadium again, my first pro contract in England was for Torquay United, so it definitely means a lot to come back.
“Obviously my time here was cut short previously in my first spell at the club, so it’s good to come in at this stage of the season and help the team out as much as I can.”
Duane Ofori-Acheampong has been allocated squad number 19.
Welcome back, Duane!
