Gary Johnson has further bolstered his squad ahead of the new season, with Lewis Collins set to return to Plainmoor having agreed a deal for 2023/24.

With two other successful loan additions, Kevin Dawson and Jack Stobbs, agreeing to turn their temporary moves into permanent arrangements last month, 22 year-old forward Collins has now followed suit in similar fashion.

Initially arriving on loan at Plainmoor in February, Lewis went on to establish himself as a popular figure amongst the Yellow Army, and was a key component in United’s superb end of season form, making 15 appearances and scoring 3 goals during the final three months of the campaign.

Equally comfortable up front or out wide, the capture of the former Newport County and Wales U21 is sure to delight Gulls supporters even further, with manager Gary Johnson’s quest to retain the majority of the team that finished 2022/23 so strongly now nearing completion.

“Our team / Club empathy, and team / Club spirit has once again come to fruition, with Lewis Collins agreeing to join us for the coming campaign,” said Johnson.

“It brings in another quality player that was part of our end of season group that showed great potential. When players like Lewis sign for a Club, it is to the credit of the WHOLE Football Club.

“Our supporters play a big part in players coming to Torquay, and we will do all we can to bring a successful season back to Torquay United AFC.”

Everyone at Torquay United would once again like to place on record its thanks and appreciation to the Yellow Army for their continued support last season, as well as those who have already pledged their support with a Season Ticket for the forthcoming 2023/24 season – we look forward to welcoming you all back for another exciting new season at Plainmoor in August!
