Torquay United AFC is delighted to announce that defender Ronny Nelson has joined the Club on loan from League 2 side Colchester United.
Left-footer Nelson, 20, began his career at Leicester City, and made two appearances for the Foxes during their 2021/22 Football League Trophy campaign. A move to Colchester followed last summer, and after making his debut for The U’s in September, Ronny has gone on to establish himself at the heart of the Club’s U21 backline.
With The Gulls facing a packed fixture list in the coming weeks, boss Gary Johnson is understandably pleased to have secured the services of the talented centre-half in time for tomorrow’s home clash with Slough.
“As we always say, it’s ‘another club in our bag’ with so many games coming up,” said Johnson.
“What we can’t afford now is any niggly injuries, without having the numbers. We’ve known of him, and we’ve been interested in him before. He’s 6’4” and at this moment, you’ve got to have a squad, and I’ve kept saying it. You need that squad competing.
“We’ve got to have a look at our luck over the season with injuries, things that have happened at the wrong times leaving us a bit short, and we’re determined for that not to happen.”
Ronny Nelson will wear the No. 16 shirt during his time with the Club.
Welcome to Plainmoor, Ronny!
