After seeing his Under-18 side clock up another win last Saturday, there was another cause for celebration for Kevin Wills at the weekend, as young striker Tom Chastey made his latest appearance in United’s senior matchday squad.

Having already followed in the footsteps of first-year professional and fellow youth team product Callum Thomas by making his debut for Gary Johnson’s side in the Isuzu FA Trophy Third Round tie at Frome last month, Chastey has continued his progression since making the bench for the National League South encounters against Chelmsford and Eastbourne.

With Tom’s youth team teammates Jacob Wellington and Kai Swann also tasting senior action for The Gulls at Frome, and fellow Young Gulls Charlie Wills and Harvey Coggins also named amongst the substitutes, Under-18 Head Coach Wills is delighted to see the young striker continuing his development in the presence of United’s senior professionals.

“I’m delighted to see that Tom has been involved in the first-team squad in recent weeks,” said Kevin.

“Tom has been in good form for the Under-18s, and this is a great reward for him.”

Former United midfielder Wills, who combines his role at Plainmoor with being Head Coach of the Pro:Direct Academy at South Devon College, is delighted to see the Club’s designated player pathway coming to the fore once again.

“It’s fantastic to see players coming through the system, and it’s further proof of the successful pathway we have in place.”
