There was yet another great turnout at our Christmas Retro Gulls event, which took place in Boots & Laces last Thursday afternoon.

Our Retro Gulls events often see a great turnout, with monthly events throughout the football season seeing a number of supporters aged 50 and over come together for an afternoon in Boots & Laces, and our Christmas meet  was another well attended event.

Former QPR, Fulham and Torquay United star and United’s current Head Of Youth Robbie Herrera was the guest speaker, and was full of praise for the recent appearances and inclusion in the squad for the youth players in the Gulls recent 4-1 FA Trophy win over Frome Town. He gave an inciteful talk on the youth set up here at Torquay, as well as explaining how recruitment is handled at both bringing in players and players leaving/progressing onto the next level.

Following on from the afternoon’s guest speaker and question and answer’s session, it was time for the eagerly awaited Christmas quiz. In a 15 question festive multiple choice quiz, it was the Tinkers & The Belles who came out on top, with an impressive 11 out of 15, beating the Psychedelic Santa’s into a close second place with 10 points. Well done to all who took part, and for those that shared their memories of festive fixtures over the years at both Plainmoor and away from home after the conclusion of the quiz.

Torquay United AFC would like to thank everyone that came to Retro Gulls, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Plainmoor for our first event of 2024 on Thursday 24th January, 2pm – 4pm!

About Retro Gulls

With the health and wellbeing in residents aged 50 and over widely recognised as another important aspect of community care within Torbay, supporters aged 50 and over will be invited to attend events in Boots & Laces once a month, with United stars present and past due to be in attendance for each meeting.

The Club will be focused on all things Torquay United, and will provide the opportunity to get Torquay talking. These events will give our ‘Retro Gulls’ the chance to discuss the current team, and those of yesteryear, with both fellow supporters and United stars past and present.

The events will vary each month, with future activities set to include fitness sessions, skittles, programme swap-shops, quizzes, bingo, workshops and much more!
