Torquay United AFC is pleased to announce that Shaun Donnellan has become the latest addition to Gary Johnson’s exciting new squad.
Former Republic of Ireland U21 man Donnellan, now 25, arrives at Plainmoor following a successful stint with divisional rivals Maidenhead United, where Shaun made 43 appearances, scoring 3 goals.
Comfortable in either midfield or defensive roles, the Barnet-born player rose through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before temporary spells at the likes of Stevenage, Dagenham and Walsall preceded a permanent move to Yeovil Town in 2017.
Following a two-year stay in Somerset, Donnellan moved on to represent National League sides Maidstone and Woking, prior to moving to Maidenhead two summers ago.
Manager Johnson spoke of his delight at the capture of the versatile player.
“Shaun is a very strong player who can play in several defensive or midfield positions.
“He’s a competitor with experience in our league, and we’re happy to have secured his services.”
Shaun is looking forward to representing Johnson’s side, having taken part in a number of battles against them in the past.
“It’s a massive club and I’m really happy to be a part of it.
“It’s always been a tough game against Gary Johnson’s Torquay side. I’m looking forward to playing for Torquay, and hopefully putting in some good performances.
“When I had the conversation with the Gaffer, it was something all players can buy into, and it was really refreshing to hear his ideas.”
