Young Gulls through to the First Round Proper

Torquay United’s FA Youth Cup run goes on, after Kevin Wills’ side overcame Wimborne in the 3rd Round Qualifying on Monday evening.

The Young Gulls made the perfect start, and were a goal up after 13 minutes, as Stevie Martin rose to power home a Gene Price corner.

The hosts levelled things up on 24 minutes through Clarke, however Jacob Wellington finished off a fine passing move to restore United’s lead three minutes before the break to make it 2-1.

Even better was to follow before the change of ends, as Andrew Ellis extended his side’s advantage just before the interval.

To their credit, Wimborne certainly made a game of it, and the second period was only a few moments old when Rayner’s deflected strike reduced the arrears to 3-2.

With the lead now just a single goal, and the prospect of some EFL big-hitters waiting in the next round, things got a little nervy thereafter, until the third minute of stoppage time, when Ellis’ second of the evening sealed the win, and clinched United’s third First Round appearance in four seasons.

Well done lads!
