United manager Gary Johnson has praised the efforts of striker Tope Fadahunsi, with the on-loan Sutton man continuing to win admirers amongst the Yellow Army.

Having scored two goals in six outings since arriving at Plainmoor, Fadanhunsi will be looking to further endear himself to both his manager and supporters on Saturday, as Southend United head to the English Riviera.

After scoring the eventual winner in the 2-1 win over Barnet last weekend, there was understandable disappointment of an earlier than anticipated substitution on Tuesday evening, as the controversial dismissal of Kieron Evans forced Johnson to re-jig his plans.

“He’s doing well for us, and we’re really pleased with him.

“I spoke to Tope as he came off, because obviously you’re always disappointed that you’ve got to forsake your game for somebody else that’s got sent off.

“That’s always a horrible thing to happen.”

Although the bustling striker missed an early opportunity to add to his goalscoring tally, United’s boss is backing him to continue making a worthy contribution to The Gulls’ cause.

“He had a great opportunity, but it came to him quick, about waist high, so he’s had to very quickly get his foot very high, and what he did – instead of guiding it, like he would on another day – he smashed it, and it caught the oustide of his foot.

“We like him, that’s why we’ve brought him in. He’s done well, because he scored goals and made goals.”
