United manager Gary Johnson gave his thoughts on the 3-2 defeat against Oldham on Sunday, after his side twice fought back from a goal down.
“As always, we’re always disappointed when we lose a game. We had a poor start and a poor first half, with probably three or four people not quite getting there and being ready for some reason, and we made a couple of changes early for the second half.
“Unfortunately, we were 1-0 down from the first half, and then in the second half, we came out and started playing. I thought both their second and third goals were against the run of play, and we had a lot of opportunities to put the ball in the box. Both teams wanted to win, so therefore you had them making chances – Mark making a couple of good saves, and then their goalie made a couple of good saves. We had one penalty, should have had two, maybe, and that might have been different.
“The third goal was a break from one of our many attacks in the second half. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot you can do when somebody is hitting it from 30 yards, and hitting it absolutely on the money and hitting the ‘top bin’, as they say, with a bit of pace. It was an unbelievable goal.
“But we’re going to keep going, because there’s certain parts of our game that’s going well. We’ve got a couple of strikers scoring goals, we just need to get our team performing for 95 minutes, that’s what we need to do. We did give it a go in the second half, and we were an opposition in the second half.
“We keep going – we’ve got our Trophy game, and then we’ve got two ‘cup finals’ with Yeovil coming up.”
