Ahead of an exciting set of festive fixtures for his side, Gary Johnson is looking forward to his side continuing their excellent run of form.
Table-topping Torquay United take on Yeovil Town at home on Boxing Day, before making the relatively short visits to Weymouth on December 28th, and for the return match against The Glovers on January 2nd.
With the next immediate fixture always taking precedence, The Gulls’ boss is focusing on the return to Plainmoor first, where the Yellow Army will once again be in attendance for what promises to be a gripping West Country derby against one of his former clubs.
“I’m looking forward to the game, I always look forward to Christmas games” began Johnson.
“Their last result was a decent one at Bromley. They find themselves near the bottom of the table, but they’ll be looking to climb back up the table if they can.
“However, we’ve got a squad that’s very much looking forward to the game, and it’s fantastic that we are, at this moment in time, one of only two teams that can have fans in the stadium – us and Weymouth. Hopefully those fans will get behind the lads, I know they will, as the Christmas period is a great period to pick up points.
“We won’t take Yeovil lightly, as we know from last year. The wounded animal – at this moment in time – is dangerous, but we have to play our own game, and cope with theirs.”
With Boxing Day marking the final home game in what has been a challenging year for all concerned, the gaffer sent a festive message out to all of the Yellow Army, with a positive 2021 very much on the agenda.
“Despite all the circumstances, I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and a much happier New Year!”
