A superb season for Torquay United AFC has received further recognition, with manager Gary Johnson being named as the National League South ‘Manager of the Season’ at the league’s AGM on Saturday.
After being appointed as United boss in mid-September, Johnson oversaw an astonishing turnaround that saw the club emerge from the lower reaches of the division to eventually win the National League South by ten points.
Along the way to securing their first league title in over 90 years, a number of records were set under Johnson’s guidance, including:
- Biggest FA Cup win (7-0 v Lymington)
- Most consecutive league wins (10)
- Most league games unbeaten (16)
- Most goals (93)
- Best Goal Difference (+52)
- Most league wins (27)
- Fewest league defeats (8)
- Most points (88)
- Quickest goal (10 seconds, Kalala v St Albans – Away)
Torquay United would like to thank the National League for a wonderful evening.
Under Johnson’s leadership, the club continues to go from strength-to-strength, and everybody connected with the club would like to congratulate Gary on receiving this prestigious award. Gary was able to thank the National League, and everyone involved with Torquay United via a pre-recorded video.
Well done, Gaffer!
