Torquay United AFC is pleased to announce the loan signing of Stoke City forward Will Goodwin.

Goodwin, 20, becomes the latest addition to Gary Johnson’s impressive and exciting new-look squad, ahead of the 2022/23 National League campaign commencing on August 6th.

Having begun his career in the youth ranks at Chester, Will made rapid progress after breaking into the first-team at the Deva Stadium, prompting Championship side Stoke to secure his services in February 2021, before spending last term in the EFL with Hartlepool United.

Johnson spoke of his delight at capturing a player who had been on his radar for some time.

“The usual words – I’m delighted, as always, when we secure a signature of somebody that we’ve been trying to get for a few weeks. It was different reasons why he couldn’t come earlier, but we’re pleased to say he’s agreed to join us, and he’ll be a major part of our squad, and obviously our season.

“He’s a big lad, he’s another striker that we felt we needed to get in, and he can play 9, 10, 7 or 11 for all those that remember the old numbers!”

Clearly eager to get going, Goodwin spoke of his excitement ahead of tonight’s pre-season friendly against Plymouth Argyle.

“I’m buzzing to get here. It’s been quite a quick process to be fair, it’s nice to feel wanted by the Gaffer that’s brought me in, he’s shown interest for a while, so I’m happy to be here.

“I can’t wait to get going, and hopefully get some minutes tonight and see how it goes. Hopefully get a win, going into Exeter on Saturday.”
