It is International Women’s Day today and it coincides with some exciting news coming out of Torquay United Community Sports Trust regarding girls’ football.
“We have just been successful in an FA initiative called the Wildcats programme,” said TUCST manager, Craig Hutcheson. “We’ll be working with the Devon FA on this exciting project.
“We are opening the programme in two centres, one in Torquay and the other will open in Teignbridge and this will happen at around April time.
“It will expand participation of girls’ football and this will hopefully lead on to structured localized leagues that will avoid long travelling times. Initially this is about participation and engagement with a view to moving forward.
“We also have our own girls’ football session that we run at Paignton Community & Sports Academy (TQ4 7DH) on Thursday evenings playing on 3G. It runs from 5:30-6:30pm for girls aged 10-14-years of age. It is a session for girls to develop their skills and the long-term aim is to develop a team. We are eager to get more girls to attend and they can turn up on the night.”
