United travel to play Weston-Super-Mare tonight in a 7:45pm kick-off.

Weston are yet to pick up a victory in the National League South, but that is something United have to be wary of according to manager, Gary Johnson.

“It plays a big part,” said Johnson ahead of tonight’s match. “The wounded animal you have to be careful of, because they’ve got nothing to lose. The fact that they haven’t won yet in twelve games means that they are dangerous. They will probably feel that at some stage they’re just going to have to go for it.

“They have got a way of playing so they have stuck to their principles, which is a credit to them. The last few defeats have been by the odd goal, and also they’ve also had a terrific win [in the FA Cup] against Bath by the odd goal. That’s what makes them dangerous. We have to respect them; we’re in a very good position ourselves to keep this run going. It’s now a proper run and we’d like to keep that going.”

Johnson has continually highlighted the effort of the Yellow Army in getting to away games this season. There have been some long journeys on the road and the Gaffer wants everyone to feel part of the journey the team is on.

“The travel the fans have done in the last month or so, to watch their team, has been fantastic. Hopefully they’ve realised that the team understands and appreciates what the supporters put themselves through – the travelling, the cost. Very soon we’re going to have home games close together. If we can get a following at home, the numbers and the noise, and the atmosphere is going to be vital.”

Johnson is eager to see his team build on what they have done so far, and to push on to create a firm impression of what they stand for.

“The boys have responded really well. They’re understanding that we have to create a little identity for ourselves and our football club. Not just an identity, a reputation. You work hard to create a reputation for yourself and for the group. The players have to do that as well. Guard that reputation with your life, because a reputation is everything, really. If people know your reputation then that’s conducive to winning football matches too.”
