It was a busy Saturday for United’s JPL sides last weekend, with all of the age categories in action.
It was a battling game for United’s U12s on Saturday who hosted North Somerset RTC Greys at South West Devon 4G. The Young Gulls pushed hard and despite goals from Oscar Mills (50′), and Thomas Ross (65′), it was the visiting side who ran out 5-2 winners.
Meanwhile the U13s earned themselves a hard-fought point when they hosted Paulton Rovers on Saturday. The Young Gulls took the lead in the 22nd minute through Harrison Discombe before the visitors levelled in the 50th minute. Three minutes later it was Paulton who struck again to make it 2-1 but United pushed on and in the 59th minute Jenson Booth equalised. The away side made it 4-2 in the 70th minute but the Young Gulls were not deterred and two goals in quick succession late on from Ollie Mitchell and debutant Josh Webber forced a share of the points.
The Clubs U14s side travelled to Street to take on Mid Somerset RTC Blacks with the Young Gulls starting well and opening the scoring in the 6th minute, with a superb strike by Ellis Drew from outside the box finding the net. During the first quarter, Toby Hard went close to doubling the sides advantage after he had an effort hit the bar. Despite chances for both sides in the second quarter, the game entered the halfway stage 1-0 to United, before the home side forced an equaliser in the 48th minute. Drew bagged his brace and the winning goal in the 68th minute after the youngster found the net from outside the box again. The Young Gulls continued to press forward in the closing stages of the game as Toby Hard, Harvey Roche and Lucas Robinson also went close, but the game ended 2-1 to United.
For United’s U15s it was goals galore as they secured a 4-4 draw on the road against Bridgwater United FC on Saturday. The Young Gulls opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Raymond Crooks before the home side forced a leveller just before half time. The clubs U15 side were quick out of the blocks after the break and re-established their lead two minutes after the restart through Macintyre Haywood Newlands, before Zachary Newton made it 3-1 in the 50th minute. However two goals in four minutes saw the hosts turn the score around, before Adam Reda Khalaf struck in the 80th minute to secure a hard fought point on the road.
It was a tough afternoon for United’s U16s side who succumbed to a 6-1 defeat at home against Bristol Inner City Football Academy. The Young Gulls were 4-1 down at the break after Evan Murray pegged a goal back, but two goals for the visitors in the second half saw them take the points.
