Torquay United is pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Dan Lavercombe on a one-month loan deal.

Lavercombe, 20, returns to Plainmoor having left for Wigan in January 2016. He made his debut for United against Aldershot Town on the 6th of April 2015 and he went on to make 23 appearances for the Gulls, displaying a maturity way beyond his years.

Dan signed for the Latics for an undisclosed fee, but remained on loan at Plainmoor for the rest of the season.

A product of the Club’s former Academy, Robbie Herrera knows Dan very well from his previous time with United.

“We needed a ‘keeper because Ryan Clarke has been struggling most of this week,” said Herrera. “He tried to join in training on Thursday and wasn’t right.

“There were quite a few names that we went through and in the end we have gone for Dan, and Wigan have kindly allowed him to join us on loan.

“We had Dan here with the the Youth team and Geoff [Harrop] and I have coached him. He had quite a few games at first team level. He knows this level and he knows what it is all about. He’s done well at Wigan so he will be itching to show people what he is about again.”

“I’m looking forward to getting back to Torquay and playing games,” said Lavercombe.

“I’m enjoying my time at Wigan but I could do with a few games as I have been away for a while with a few injuries.”

Dan trained with the first team on Friday and will be available for selection for Saturday’s match against Solhull Moors. He will wear the number 21 shirt.
