Following his recent appointment as Torquay United’s new Community Media Officer, Matt Rogan has spoken of his enthusiasm for the role.
Already a prominent and popular figure with the Torbay public due to his extensive work on local radio, Rogan is eager for the Club to continue working together with the local community, following United’s hugely successful Community Day at Plainmoor on Saturday.
“I’m really excited, and I can’t wait to get stuck in,” began Matt.
“I’m a little bit of a familiar face – but maybe more of a familiar voice – by doing lots of radio stations over the years. I’ve been doing various radio stations since 2013 in Devon, starting at Gemini, then Heart, Palm and Breeze – mainly getting up at 4.30am to do breakfast shows!
“I think we saw what happened over lockdown. We ‘ve all been isolated, we’ve all been stuck in our houses for so, so long, but one thing that lockdown and the pandemic actually did, was to show what community is, and what can be done in the community.
“Now that hopefully things are getting a bit more back to normal, what we don’t want to do is see all those great things that we saw over the pandemic and over lockdown, finish and stop. I think it’s really about us getting our heads together, and brainstorming ideas, to come up with some great community ideas and events to keep that going, because it did so much good, and we want to be the hub of it here.”
Rogan will get his first chance to meet United supporters in his new role this Thursday, with the Club’s first Retro Gulls event taking place in Boots & Laces on Thursday, 28th October between 5pm-7pm.
“I’m really looking forward to that, I’m really looking forward to meeting some of Torquay United’s most long-standing and dedicated fans. It sounds like it’s going to be a really good night, and another great community event.”
