One of the first to agree a deal to remain on board for 2023/24, United stalwart Dean Moxey is looking ahead to the upcoming campaign.
Upon signing from local rivals Exeter City in the summer of 2020, Dean Moxey has firmly established himself as a fan-favourite amongst the Yellow Army, with the 37-year-old bringing a calming presence into the United defence.
During his time at Plainmoor so far, Moxey has been deployed in a number of roles across United’s back-line and last season, would take the Captain’s armband in the absence of Club Captain Asa Hall. The experienced Moxey brings a wealth of experience into the side having made over 550 senior appearances for the likes of Exeter City, Derby County, Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers since beginning his career in 2003, during which, Moxey has been involved in achieving promotion at every level from the National League up to the Championship.
After tallying 42 appearances in all competitions last time out, there’s no doubt the Yellow Army will be looking forward to seeing Moxey return to Plainmoor for his fourth successive campaign in the coming months, where the United stalwart will also go on to make his 100th league appearance for the Club.
Speaking of agreeing a new deal for the 2023/24 season, Moxey explains how everything was sorted early on in the close-season, with United Manager Gary Johnson securing the defender’s services soon after the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.
“The Gaffer mentioned it to me a couple of days after the season, so it was nice to get it all signed and stay on,” began Moxey.
With pre-season training now fast approaching, the squad are always put through their paces, with Moxey admitting he isn’t the biggest fan of training in the heat that the summer months can bring.
“I don’t think I ever am looking forward to pre-season really! I’ve sort of got used to them over the years, but it’s not nice running around in 31 degree heat!” explained Moxey.
The United defender is, however, looking forward to the upcoming campaign, which will begin with a number of familiar faces with the likes of Asa Hall, Tom Lapslie, Kevin Dawson, Ollie Tomlinson and Jack Stobbs also having agreed deals in recent weeks.
“I think it’s going to be a good season for us, we’ve kept a lot of the players that ended the season last year so it’s looking promising, hopefully we can come back and get off to a good start,” said Moxey.
