The signing of striker Guy Gnabouyou (27) was completed late last week after the Club received international clearance. He made his first team debut coming on in the 80th minute in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Leyton Orient at Plainmoor.
“To get him on board took a lot of work behind the scenes,” said Torquay United head coach, Gary Owers. “We need to concentrate on getting him a little fitter now and hopefully get him somewhere closer to the team.”
The Gaffer hopes that Guy will add a new dimension to the forward line.
“I think he’s good in the air and he can attack things when crosses get put into the box. I think he may be more predatory than some of the other lads in terms of, his best work might be in and around the 18-yard box, and not necessarily outside of the 18-yard box. That might be something we look to improve as well.
“He’s never played in England before. He doesn’t know how intense the games are going to be. We don’t know how intense the games were where he has come from. That’s what we’re going to find out in the next couple of weeks.”
Gary Owers is starting to see the results of many hours on the training ground paying off. It is now back-to-back wins for his team, and Gnabouyou’s signing also brings something that he has been eager to see since joining the Club.
“It’s competition – that’s what I want. Hopefully it will spur certain individuals on. If you’re a striker and you’re not scoring, then what are you doing? That’s the responsibility that they all carry.”
